A text message from his wife… his dead wife!
A murder with no witnesses. No motive. No clues.
Where would you begin?
The unsolved murder of a local woman.
A spate of armed robberies on petrol stations.
Two missing schoolgirls.
They say bad things come in threes, but this is challenging the resilience of battle-hardened Yorkshire copper, DCI Frank Finnegan.
With a new, and feisty, street-smart female officer joining his ranks, will it be the boost he needs to solve the crimes?
When the grieving husband of the murdered woman offers up vital information relating to the missing schoolgirls, things swiftly escalate.
Is he telling the truth, creating a diversion, or masking a dark secret?
Finnegan's motto is—every crime scene contains a clue; every criminal makes a mistake.
His adage is about to be tested to the limit!
Set in the rugged and atmospheric landscape of Whitby and North Yorkshire, this gripping page-turner of murder, mystery, and whodunnit, with a dash of gallows humour, will keep you enthralled until the the very last page.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I actually read the notes at the end of the book, which explain the unanswered questions will be dealt with in Jawbone Walk. Being a Yorkshire lass, and having been to Whiby several times, I could relate to the locations and the characters. I found the writing engaging and the storyline plausible. I changed my mind a couple of times about the villain, but that's a sign of a good author. It also helped that I read the prequel, available from one of the other free download sites. An excellent novel, looking forward to the next.

I have just finished book 5, and looking forward to No 6 out Dec 26th. I have enjoyed every one. Very exciting stories all very different. A lovely cast all with different characters and back stories, but each taking a strong part. DCI Finnegan old Yorkshire, wise with a gambit of old saying (Which I being older than him know) but the younger ones do not. A touch of comedy, but the stories make you want to keep reading until the end of the book. If like me you start at book one you will enjoy the all 7 books and follow the characters.

Like any good series you need to be hooked, to see why you need to read the next one, and I found this book had that, in the characters and the story, with enough to want to follow them on their next investigation, although I wouldn’t mind seeing the back of the Super, I am hoping the reason for her orders are because she’s dodgy.

A very enjoyable murder\ mystery detective story set in Whitby, North Yorkshire. Quite refreshing as it keeps things quite low key and some good characters building up here. The book has a stand-alone story with a plausible ending whilst also an underlying mystery as yet unsolved. is this book. I did look forward to reading it every night. Short chapters tell the story well. I'll go get book 2
